What does onboarding at folk look like?

We strongly believe that onboarding is a crucial part of your journey at folk. We're focusing on shaping your onboarding experience so you have a strong sense of belonging and inclusion from your very first day.

It's still a work in progress but here's an overview of the onboarding practices we've implemented so far:

  1. The starting point.
  2. Your candidate experience turns into your team experience as soon as you receive an offer letter. It's the starting point of your onboarding.

At folk, your future manager will be sharing all those awesome news over a call and we'll follow-up with an offer letter via email so you get everything in writing.

What are the information you'll find in your offer letter at folk?

Your offer-letter will be shared via a one-pager summarizing:

    • why we believe we're a great fit
    • all key information to your future role (type of position, management relationship, role, estimated start date)
    • your compensation package explained
    • our ESOP plan and what you're entitled to
    • our perks and benefits in loads of details
  3. The "welcome home" feeling.
  4. I've always greet new team members with a Slack message starting by "Welcome home!” πŸ˜„To me, feeling at home with your brand new team is the greatest feeling every newcomer should experience during their very first days.

So at folk, from the day we receive the signed offer letter to your very first day, we'll strive to find any excuse we can think of to get in touch and make you feel at welcome.

When we get the chance, we even suggest that future team members join our quarterly offsite, even months before their actual first day.

During your first day, we'll introduce you to the team either it's via a welcome message on Slack, a team weekly rituals, a team coffee's chat or all of the above.

We recently started asking newcomers to fill in a short personal intro (like a Chinese portrait) to share fun facts about themselves with the team. We relay this presentation through Slack to get the conversation rolling with the entire team.

Most importantly, you'll spend your first couple of days meeting with team members, founders and your buddy over dedicated onboarding sessions or coffee chats.

  5. The (huge) focus on planning.
    1. We want to ensure your first days are seamless and focusing on meeting with the team.

All the paperwork will be completed before your first day. You'll receive your IT equipment and tools access a week before so you have time to set up your working environment.

Prior to your first day, we'll share with you your dedicated onboarding guide where you can find:

    2. a presentation of your buddy (already introduced to you by e-mail)
    3. your onboarding checklist, your onboarding program and your 30-60-90 days objectives so you know what is ahead of you
    4. the 45 days and 90 days schedule for your onboarding 1:1s to follow up on your objective
  1. The delightful touch.
  2. The best part of your onboarding will most likely be your first offsite where you'll get the opportunity to see the entire team in real life all at once!

It's also during this team event, that we'll bring your welcome pack to swag you up with delight. But that's the part we're keeping secret for now on. You won't want us to spoil the surprise for you! πŸ˜„
